Enclosure

The enclosure needs to be kept as dry as possible as they don't do well in high humidity
and can suffer from respiratory infection.
One end needs to be at the desired temperature for the Skink and a cooler end for them to retreat too. This can be achieved by using a 40 watt globe or a 60 watt globe to determine the temperature change depending on the enclosure size.
Ventilation is a big issue as the less you have the more humidity you will get and to much will result in loss of temperature, so you need to find a happy medium in the enclosure.
A good substrate is Kitty litter as it can keep the humidity down and absorb the Oder's.

Sexing Bluetongues & Shinglebacks

Bluetongues
Sexing Bluies can be hard i normally go by head width as the males seem to have larger heads than females or at mating time when males are biting females on the neck.
Shinglebacks
Shinglebacks are a bit easier as males have large , wider heads to females
long narrow tails compared to the female wider and more fuller tail,
there cloaca opening is more wider than females.

Behviour

Shinglebacks
Shinglebacks are one of the only lizards to pair up for life,
They can be found sunning them selves on country road to maintain there body temperature .
And will open there mouth wide opened in a defense stand.Shinglebacks are omnivorous and give birth to live young normally only 2 juvenile.
Bluetongues
They are a terrestrial lizard, and when provoked will make a hissing sound and flatten there body out to look bigger, with their head raised and mouth wide open showing their blue tongue. Bluetongues are omnivorous, and give birth to live young
Up to 20 plus juveniles.

Water

Clean water should always be supplied in a shallow dish,
It is not recommended for ponds with out a good ramp, as they are not good swimmer.

Diet ,& Supplements

Fruits and vegetables, watermelon, broccoli, banana, flowers, woodies and crickets
Dog food, snails, slugs, raw eggs & boiled eggs,Chicken livers, and cut up chicken necks, Females after giving birth can do with small mice to put on condition.
Supplements
Dusting as it is known, food dusted with calcium or vitamin powder is a must for a good healthy Lizard every second feed.
This can be done by putting the food in a container or bag and adding a small amount of either calcium or vitamin powder and giving a shake to mix the food with the powder.

Lighting & Heat

One of the most important features of an indoor enclosure
Is a UVB full spectrum light (this is not a heat source)?
But provides UVB rays or wavelengths similar to that of the sun
This will help against Metabolic Bone Disease and help with the growth of a healthy Hatchling.
It must be placed no more than 30cm from base of enclosure
As the further away the weaker the wavelengths are.
Bluetongues & Shinglebacks require another form of heat source
Either a heat mat or basking light both should be control by a
Thermostat, with a part of the enclosure cooler than the other.
You can never under estimate the true value of natural sunlight.
